Cancer Risk Prevention: 4 First-Class Tips

With cancer research constantly evolving, one thing remains constant – the fact that lifestyle choices most certainly have an influence cancer prevalence. Tobacco, diet, risky behaviours, sun exposure – these all influence our risk of getting various cancers.
There is so much advice out there on how to prevent cancer and occasionally advice from one study contradicts advice from another.
Here are some tips we know for certain will be a step in the right direction in reducing your cancer risk:
1. Cut Tobacco Completely:
Tobacco, whether smoking it or chewing has been linked to cancer of the mouth, throat, and pancreas. Smoking goes even further and is also linked to cancers of the voice box, kidney, bladder, and cervix.
For help quitting tobacco, consult a health care provider at Cosmetique Clinic. Quitting tobacco is an important way, arguably the most important, to prevent cancer.
2. Eat Well:
Although eating healthy cannot 100% ensure cancer prevention, it can promote longevity. How can you eat well though? For starters, you can add more fruits, vegetables, wholegrains and beans to your diet and ALWAYS wash your fresh fruits and vegetables to rid them of excess pesticides. Secondly, limit processed foods and refined sugars and fats especially processed meats, soft drinks, candy, chips etc.
Speak to a Nutritionist for advice on how to optimize your eating habits.
3. Protect Yourself from the Sun:
We cannot reiterate this enough: Protect the skin you are in! Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers and one of the most preventable! How to be sun smart:
- SHADE: stay in the shade, wear a hat and sunglasses
- MID-DAY SUN: AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. Stay out of the sun between 10am and 4pm
- APPLY: Do not skimp on the sunscreen. Apply liberally all over, especially on the face, shoulders, chest and back.
- RE-APPLY: Re-apply sunscreen every 2hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
- T-SHIRT: Wear protective clothing. A t-shirt is better than nothing!
