Nasopharyngeal Suctioning, also known as nasal suctioning, is a quick procedure to assist in clearing the airways of a patient who is unable to do so themselves. A catheter is attached to a small suctioning device and the tip of the catheter is gently fed down the patient’s nasal cavity to the back of the throat. This allows the physio to suction the patient’s secretions (phlegm) out, clearing the nasal passages and allowing the patient to breathe with ease.
